A Hint
For those of you thinking that you would prefer to wait until next summer (especially for portraits), you're perhaps contemplating the photos will be better or your tan will be darker, well think again. Regarding the colour of your skin for example, that can be changed to whatever colour you like with a single adjustment, but we can't however change the position of the sun, anyway we will explain more below. With regards to some thinking the photos will be better because it's summer, that's not necessarily the case, as when you are sweaty or even just hot in general, it shows of course and so we then spend the time after (both during the shoot and after in editing) trying to make you look less uncomfortable, time that should be used making you or your subject look more amazing.
These reasons and more are listed below, show you why out-of-season bookings can be beneficial in many ways and why it might be a good idea to reserve your date with us early, rather than later.
So, what are the main reason that you should consider booking early:
1: Availability
we have more time
Whilst we we're proud of the productivity from our in house teams & boast our unique database of local photographers, availability becomes more & more scarce everyday closer to Summer. In fact we have a policy during out of season months when people enquire for something they want captured 'soon' or 'later', whereby we instinctively inform them about peak season availability issues, we guess they think it's just a sales ploy, yet they are often still surprised when they contact to confirm a pre-mentioned date and we then have to inform them that it's now not possible, it makes us sad too. In short, we get thousands of enquiries every year and so it's unfortunately not possible for us to 'pencil dates in' on a casual request, the answer is quite simply to 'Reserve a Date' as soon as you can - which we can then 100% guarantee availability and the best from the choice of available operators too.
2:Climate
the cool is nicer for all
We spend most of the summer trying to avoid the heat, it's not good for the operator and more importantly it's not good for anyone in the photo! It is usually preferable to have people looking more comfortable (I guess sweaty saunas could be an exception) and so it's not fair to ask people to be in a photo when they're hot, it shows. While we can do our best to avoid direct sun and the hottest areas, this then in turn can take artistic value away from the photo and even if the subject is placed in the shade, the operators are often needed to be in the sun and this strains the equipment and can impair their level of achievement. If you cannot avoid a summer a shoot then feel free to contact us for the list of things to remember (personalised to what type of shoot you are having)... ie: for portraits, definitely have a change of clothes and refreshments on you and for your wedding, have shaded areas with umbrellas etc. to protect your guests... the list goes on.
3: Artistically
the softer sun is more appealing
So, we've mentioned that a large majority of people think that Summer is the way to go for the best photos and that this is often not the case at all. Well, whilst we of course can perform miracles in post production, we are unable to control where the sun is. During Summer months the sun is much higher in the sky, causing unpleasant shadows below everything, and removing these shadows is often the hardest to control. Yes, we have special equipment, but often even this cannot completely resolve the situation... and setting it up takes time from your session! Remember too, that if we do manage to remove these unwanted shadows, you're now left with no wanted shadows that may have made the capture much more artistically pleasing. For any shot that even remotely involves the outside (we are even including inside shoots where there is a window), we often recommend booking out of season. We also feel that a plain sky in the middle of summer can actually be a bit boring, whereas the odd cloud can make for a far more interesting image - one of my personal best shots was taken in the pouring rain! Sunsets are also more likely out-of-season and everyone loves a sunset, in fact after it has rained and the sky goes wild with vivid colours, the spanish actually have a name for it “Candilazo,” a word that the Royal Academy here defines as an “Arrebol Crepuscular” and roughly translates as “afterglow twilight”. We often hear from worried clients who have booked and then think it's going to be naff weather on their date, so each and every time we say "great!", explaining that you might now end up with something way better.
